How to Change a Misleading Job Title on Your Resume
A misleading job title on your resume creates a trap. It may pass a keyword screen, then collapse in the first five minutes of an interview when your scope does not match the label.

When titles go wrong
Common cases:
- Internal titles that mean nothing outside the company ("Ninja," "Rockstar," coded levels)
- Inflated titles that oversell seniority
- Undersold titles that hide leadership or ownership
- Contractor titles that do not match the work performed
Recruiters map titles to level and pay bands. A mismatch creates wrong interviews or no interviews.
Safe ways to fix a title
Option A: Market title with official title

Option B: Keep official title, clarify in bullet one
Keep Associate if that was the real title, then open with ownership:
- "Owned roadmap for X used by Y users…"
Option C: Dual role when scope truly spanned both
Product Analyst / Associate PM only if both were real in your duties and you can defend both.
