15-Minute Interview Warmup Routine That Actually Works
Most people “prepare” for interviews by rereading the job description in the parking lot. That is not a warmup. A short, fixed routine works better than a two-hour cram the night before.
Short answer: Spend 15 minutes on review, out-loud practice, and logistics. Keep it the same every time so your brain knows the pattern.

Minute 0 to 3: Pull the right materials
Open only three things:
1. The job description (or your notes on must-have skills)
2. Your tailored resume for that role
3. Your STAR story bank (4 to 6 stories max)
Close Slack, email, and LinkedIn. Warmup fails when you multitask.
Minute 3 to 8: Speak three answers out loud
Say these out loud, on a timer, as if a human is waiting:
1. 60-second intro (who you are, one strength, why this role)
2. One STAR story that maps to a top skill in the JD
3. Work authorization line if it may come up (short, calm, no essay)
If you stumble, fix the structure, not your accent or vocabulary list. Clarity beats polish. See the non-native English interview guide if that is your bottleneck.
Minute 8 to 12: Anticipate two hard questions
Pick two likely questions from the JD and your resume gaps. Examples:
- Why this company
- A failure or conflict story
- A metric on your resume they will probe
Answer each in under 90 seconds. Stop when the timer ends. Silence after a clean answer is fine.
Minute 12 to 15: Logistics and reset
- Camera, mic, lighting, charger
- Water nearby
- One sentence you will open with if they say “tell me about yourself”
- Put the phone on do not disturb
Then stop preparing. Over-prep in the last five minutes creates shaky delivery.
What not to do in the last hour
- Rewrite your whole resume
- Memorize a new essay
- Open ten tabs of “common interview questions”
- Practice with AI live-cheating tools during the real call (risk and trust issues)

FAQ
Is 15 minutes enough?
For a warm-up, yes. Deep prep belongs earlier in the week, not five minutes before the call.
Should I use AI to generate answers during the interview?
Risky. Interviewers can tell when answers sound generic or mismatched to your resume. Build your own stories ahead of time.
What if I freeze?
Return to structure: situation, action, result. One concrete example beats a perfect speech.
